Become a Global Leader
Global Leaders (GLs) serve an integral role in the successful transition of incoming international students, starting with International Student Orientation and supporting international student programming throughout the year. We are looking for enthusiastic, dedicated student leaders with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to help new international students.
Job Overview
During International Student Orientation, GLs will assist in developing and leading activities and programs to foster community building amongst new students. They assist in the setup and teardown of orientation-related events, provide staffing needs, and maintain active communication with their students throughout the duration of orientation.
After International Student Orientation, GLs continue to work for us by assisting in program planning and implementation from social events to intercultural workshops. This position provides an opportunity for students to engage with people from different backgrounds and develop important life skills.
Global Leaders serve in a part-time, on-campus position and are provided with a stipend for their service.

Become a Global Mentor
Global Mentors (GMs) are student leaders who serve an integral role in the successful transition of incoming international students, during their first quarter at UCSC. Mentors provide cultural and social mentorship for new students.
Global Mentor Responsibilities
- Mentor new international students
- Conduct weekly check-ins with mentees and organize online/in-person events to foster connections, including meet-ups, study groups, dinners, etc.
- Actively participate in quarterly program-wide events (e.g., Welcome Event)
- Attend Global Mentor training prior to the start of fall quarter.
- Other duties as assigned

Become a Grad Peer Mentor
Grad Peer Mentors support mentees through practical events geared towards supporting students as they transition into living in the United States and across their journey at UCSC. The primary focus of the program is on summer pre-arrival and fall arrival periods of incoming students, with ongoing community building, support, and mentorship through the rest of the academic year, depending on funding.
Grad Peer Mentor Responsibilities
- Host and present online forums to build community and answer questions from incoming students, including one for participants in the Graduate Preparation Program
- Participate and represent ISSP at the Graduate Resource Fair prior to the first day of instruction
- Coordinate quarterly networking programs such as mixers, tax filing workshops, etc.
- Work with ISSP to identify the needs of international graduate students
- Other duties as assigned
